Parliament on a roll, elects deputy speakers
Belgrade, Feb. 04, 2004
- The Serbian parliament has elected five deputy speakers, after
Democratic Party of Serbia deputy leader Dragan Marsicanin was voted
into the speaker’s chair this morning.
The five deputies are Gordana Pop Lazic and Stefan Zankov of the
Serbian Radical Party, Predrag Markovic of G17 Plus, Vojislav
Mihailovic representing the coalition of New Serbia and the Serbian
Renewal Movement, and Zoran Andjelkovic from the Socialist party of
Serbia.
Only the Democratic Party does not have a representative among the
deputy speakers, after it declined to nominate a candidate.
Predrag Markovic will deputise for Marsicanin when he is unable to
chair the parliament.
Parliament has been adjourned until Friday.
Interview given night before Mr. Marsicanin was elected:Dragan Marsicanin: There is no seat for DS
in Government
DSS candidate for Parliament Speaker, Dragan Marsicanin said for 'Blic'
that they did not want SPS support for this position. He said:'DSS,
G17 Plus and SPO-NS coalition addressed to all parties having said
that they should decide between two candidates.
Q: Democratic bloc claim that with SPS support to government,
Slobodan Milosevic is coming back.
A: 'We have not carried out any kind of negotiations with SPS. From
SPS head quarter we got information that it was not their interest
to participate in new government and their only reason of giving
support was to solve difficult political situation in Serbia'.
Q: When will begin negotiations with SPS about giving support to
government?
A: 'Firstly we have to elect Parliament Speaker then we must find
political solution about setting up of government'.
Q: Has DS any chance to participate in negotiations about the
government of four lists of democratic bloc?
A:'Concerning DSS there is no possibility of joint participation in
that government. There are only two possibilities for DSS, that is
either SPS will to support minor government of DSS, G17 Plus and SPO-NS
coalition or holding new elections'.
Q: Has DSS insisted on negotiations with SPS or it has been joint
agreement with G17, SPO-NS? Do your party has some kind of fear
because of opinion of electorate concerning cooperation with SPS and
Milosevic?
A:'If there was no G17, SPO-NS support we could not talk about that.
We consider together the possibility of setting up of minor
government with SPS support. Whether it will be realised we will see
soon.
There is no Milosevic's presence here. Somebody sees him as
apparition. SPS has done a lot in last three years and that party
has been trying to cristalize itself and to prove that they are
ready to find solutions to many political problems'.
Q: What kind of reactions of EU are you expecting because of SPS
support? What do you think when will be set up the minor government?
A:'Friends will accept that as good news as a news of beginning of
solving of problems in Serbia.
It is very necessary to set up Parliament as soon as possible and
also to set up government.
Q: It means that new government will be set up in two weeks? Who
will be the Prime Minister and who will be new Defence Minister?
A:'I hope so that it will be possible to set up government in two
weeks if we have majority.
If there is Parliament majority Prime Minister will be Vojislav
Kostunica. Concerning to Defence Minister we will deal about that'.
