Government & Ministries - Serbian government committed to result-yielding policy

Vrsac – Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said today in Vrsac that for Serbia, the way into the EU comprises laws that should be enacted and adjustments to European standards, but also in a material sense, the constructing of roads towards Europe.

At the opening ceremony of the newly reconstructed road Vladimirovac-Vrsac, Kostunica said that this is one such road since it is part of Corridor 10 and it links Serbia with Romania, and further on with Europe.

Kostunica said he was pleased that Pancevo, Vrsac and the Serbian-Romanian border are connected by a first-rate main road, adding that not only Serbia and Vojvodina, but Europe as well will benefit from it, since from the very beginning, the construction was done in close cooperation with Europe, and financed by the European Investment Bank. Both Serbian and Italian contractors performed the work, and managed to complete it four months ahead of the deadline.

Recalling that a few days ago in Vranje another road section was opened for traffic, namely the reconstructed Vranje-Bujanovac road, the Prime Minister pointed out that the Serbian government is set to bring order into Serbia through laws, institutions, improvements in economy, better life and roads such as this one.

He said that the Serbian government is committed to a policy that shows results, and not to a policy of words, and added that the opening of this road, in light of the 2005 Men’s European Basketball Championships, best indicates this.

The Serbian Minister of Capital Investment Velimir Ilic expressed gratitude to the building contractors for fulfilling their promise that all works would be finished before the beginning of the European Basketball Championships, and pointed out that this is only one part of Serbia where roads are being constructed, since there are hundreds of construction sites throughout Serbia. He said that the Serbian government hopes to make Serbia’s infrastructure the foundation for the economy’s development, and that the reconstruction of roads will be continued.

The Serbian government delegation, during its visit to Vrsac, also visited the Hemofarm Concern and the Millennium sports centre. Kostunica expressed satisfaction with what he had seen and pointed out that all this proves that a great deal can be achieved by joint efforts of the Serbian government, the local self-government and European institutions.
