Providers Ready For Talks With 'Telekom' |
Belgrade, Sept. 11, 2002 - The Association of Internet Providers of Yugoslavia repeated its invitation to the representatives of 'Telekom Serbia' to come to a meeting on 16 September. The talks should lead to the long-delayed beginning of cooperation and solutions of many unresolved issues'. 'It is, however, understandable that the judicial and managerial decisions cannot be the subject of negotiations. We are open for discussion, but only if the starting point is a legal state', says the statement from the meeting of this society, including more than 40 Internet provider companies.
They have welcomed the call from the republic Minister of Traffic and Telecommunication Marija Raseta-Vukosavljevic on 'Telekom' to obey the law and connect Internet providers that it unilaterally disconnected. 'We regard this statement as support to the legal order in the state, not to any of the parties involved in this dispute', says the statement. The association of Internet providers backed the efforts of Serbian government to develop Internet infrastructure and its intentions to perform restitution of 'Telekom'.
'Independence' union of 'Telekom Serbia' supported today the decision of general manager Drasko Petrovic not to act on order from inspector of Ministry of Traffic and Telecommunication. The union claims that ''Telekom' did not renew the contracts with so called 'Internet providers' because they offered international telephone services by-passing our main telephone exchange even though this type of service was not covered by the contract. That way 'Telekom' suffered loss of over 10 million euros and Serbia did not collect tax', says the statement. It is further stated that only 'Telekom' has the paid license to conduct international telephone traffic by fixed network. It is the sole party with the right to decide which contracts it will renew and which ones not.
'Telekom Serbia' will keep making contracts with a company that exclusively offer Internet services, says the statement of 'Independence' union of 'Telekom Serbia'.
