Belgrade, May 8, 2002 - Serbian Minister of Science and Technology Dragan Domazet announced today that the complicated procedure for registering foreign companies will soon be dramatically simplified, which will be another relief and incentive to potential investors.
One segment of the law regulating this field will be changed by the end of June and others will be dealt with later, since the parliament has a great number of other laws on its docket, Domazet said at a conference of
Diaspora and domestic entrepreneurs, the Beta news agency reported. The procedures and regulations will be so simple that investors will be able to "do all the work through the Internet."
"Establishing a company will take one or two days, and you will not have to wait for the permit for a year or two, but will obtain it in a couple of weeks," said Domazet.
Domazet invited businessmen from the Serbian Diaspora to invest in information technologies and nationwide projects: a biotechnology programme, an agricultural industry programme, and an energy efficiency programme aimed to reduce waste in electric power consumption.
"We intend to attract foreign companies to start up export-oriented production in Serbia," said Domazet. "We hope that half of these products will be sold abroad by 2010."
The gathering of the Diaspora and the fatherland was organized by the Association for cooperation with Serbs worldwide called Srpska Veza, and the Serbian Doctors Society, under the patronage of the Serbian Orthodox Church. A symposium on strengthening the connection between the
Diaspora and the fatherland and meetings of philanthropists and doctors within the ceremony occasioned by the 130th anniversary of the Serbian Doctors' Society will also take place during the four-day gathering.
