Draft law on denationalization soon
Belgrade, March 11, 2002 - The draft law on denationalization will be completed in two months at the latest, after which it will be forwarded to the Serbian parliament, said Commission for the preparation of the law on denationalization member Dusan Curcin, as reported by the Beta news agency.

At a press conference of the Otpor (Resistance) National Movement, he criticized the decision according to which the law on privatization was adopted first, while the law on denationalization is still expected.

Curcin said that the Commission urged the Serbian Justice Ministry to temporarily suspend sales of fixed assets that were taken away from their former owners. Curcin said that the suspension should last until the beginning of 2003.

A lack of financial means for paying out compensation to former owners was one of the problems the commission met with while preparing the draft law.

The Commission for preparation of the draft law on denationalization was established in December 2001, and Curcin represents the Otpor national movement.

The Commission is presided over by Serbian Public Attorney Sead Spahovic, and its members include Belgrade Law School Slobodan Perovic and Obrad Stanojevic professors, Serbian Supreme Court judges Marija Milosavljevic, Mirjana Rasic, Ljubisav Stojanovic, former justice minister Djordje Ninkovic and lawyers Dusanka Subotic-Homen, Vladimir Todorovic and Vlada Miljevic.
