1. Stock Feeders Report |
The intervention of 37 million Dinars from the federal budget
is not enough to stimulate the export of beef and meat, neither
will it greatly aid the development of a good stock breeders'
program.
This year's projected exports of cattle, meat, meat by-products
and fish, were valued at 64.1 million (M) dollars [the projected
export value of all agricultural and food products would be
in the range of 444.1 M USD]. This projection, by value, would
have been the lowest value of these exports during the last
three decades; however, they won't even be realized at this
level.
The failure to meet the planned export levels is not due to
a drastic reduction in the size of the national stock herd,
[which is able to provide 22.600 tons of cattle, meat and, meat
by products] but, is more attributable to the slow pace of meeting
the proposed demands of the EU, once the greatest Serbian export
market until ten years ago.
These demands from the EU includes the requirement of a veterinarian
certificates, recognized by the EU and cattle marking, which
has been discussed for years in Serbia as a necessary requirement
for successful export to the EU market. However either the money
for this program is usually never available or, the producers
often avoid these new requirements. Without data confirming
the origination of cattle, European exports are effectively
blocked.
This is best illustrated by the data concerning last years export
data. From the projected export cattle, meat and meat by-products
valued at 76 M USD, the actual value of these exports barely
exceeded 25 M USD.
