TISSUE AND SPECIAL PAPERS |
Production and Consumption of Tissue And Special Papers
Global
Presently, there are 2.000 cellulose, semi-cellulose, mechanical,
ground-wood pulp, and denking fibers factories in the world.
There are 3.900 paper and board factories and 8.800 paper and
board machines in the world. In 1994, 16.200.000 tons of tissue
paper were produced in the world. Production of tissue paper
from 1971-1991 is shown in table 5. and the world consumption
in 1994 in different countries in figures 2. and 3.

Table 5. Development of world tissue paper production in
the period 1971-1994
Tissue paper consumption per inhabitant in 1994 is shown in
diagram 2. It is obvious from this diagram that the average
paper consumption per inhabitant was 2.9kg, in the USA - 20kg,
Japan - 12kg, and West Europe - 10kg.

Figure 2. Tissue paper consumption per inhabitant in 1994
An anticipated growth in tissue paper production in 1994-2005
is shown in figure 3. and figure 4. shows tissue paper
consumption per inhabitant in different regions.

Figure 3. An anticipated growth rate (%) of demands for tissue paper 1994-2005

Figure 4. Consumption of tissue paper (kg per habitant) in 2005
The world increase of tissue paper consumption from 1971 to
1991 was 6-14% in 5 year period. On the basis of these data
it can be anticipated that the growth rate in the period 1998-2005
would be 3.5% that is the consumption would be 14.4 kg per inhabitant
in 2005 in Western Europe and 6.5% in Eastern Europe (Wochenblatt,
p. 803, 17. 1998.).
The main consumers and manufacturers of tissue paper in Eastern
Europe in 1991 are shown in figures 5. and 6.

Figure 5. Tissue paper consumption in kg per inhabitant in East Europe 1991-1992

Figure 6. The world biggest producers of tissue paper in East Europe in 1991. Capacity (000 t)
