The BACKA SOUTH expands in the central part of the Pannonian Plain, in the north of Serbia.
This district encompasses the municipalities of:

• Zabalj

It has a population of 553,027. Seat of the District is Novi Sad, the biggest city in the Serbia's Autonomous Province of Vojvodina.

Novi Sad is the residence of the oldest cultural-scientific Institution of the Serb People: the Mariachi Srpska, founded in 1862.

Within the District the following industries prevail: chemical, oil, machines, tools and electrical porcelain, textile, food, and building industry.
