Payments tax to finance state media
18:22 BELGRADE, Oct 2 (Beta) - The Serbian Government today adopted changes to the Broadcast Act aimed at providing income for Radio Television Belgrade and Radio Television Novi Sad. The state broadcasters, which have so far been funded from budget reserves, will in future derive regular income from the tax on financial transactions.
“This regular source of funding will be a guarantee of Radio Television Serbia’s editorial independence, and will not involve any additional expense for the state,” said Finance Minister Bozidar Djelic. The move is only a temporary solution, added Djelic, because the tax on financial transactions is due to be abolished.
