Dispute over nuclear waste
19:54 BELGRADE, Sept 26 (B92) - The Vinca Nuclear Science Institute has called on Serbia’s Science and Technology Institute to resign, warning of a possible ecological catastrophe caused by the inappropriate disposal of nuclear waste. “Low and medium level radioactive waste is being held in a storage facility. You don’t need much imagination to envisage the facility exploding and spreading radioactive waste over an area of 50 to 100
kilometers,” warned professor Vladimir Ajdacic.
The institute accused Minister Dragan Domazet of trying to intimidate employees with “sackings, blacklists and by denying financing”. Professor Jasmine Vujic said the ministry was guilty of incompetence “not seen even under the former regime”.
