Protesting workers issue “last call”
14:39 KRAGUJEVAC, Sept 19 (Beta) - Workers at the Zastava special arms factory in Kragujevac have issued a “last call” for the Serbian government to respond to their demands, or face fresh protests on Monday.
Union leader Jugoslav Ristic said he had appealed to Prime Minister Zoran Zivkovic “and his associates to come to the factory to resolve the problems”. The 3,000 factory workers, who began their protest against mass redundancies on Tuesday, were joined today by the local union of nurses and the Zastava Transport workers. They are also demanding the dismissal of company director Djordje Nesterovic.
