Brucellosis, Lyme disease in south Serbia
18:47 TUTIN, Sept 11 (Beta) - Epidemiologists in south Serbia say there is a danger of brucellosis and Lyme disease in the area around the town of Tutin in Sandzak. Local health chief Nihad Eminovic told media that tests performed on 51 sheep and one cow had confirmed that the brucellosis virus was present.
Four out of nine cattle owners had also tested positive for the virus, he added. Brucellosis is a disease of cattle which can be passed to humans. Eminovic also said that blood samples had been taken from 59 individuals in the area and that twenty of these had tested positive for antibodies to the bacteria which causes Lyme disease.
