Rail workers secure vinyl chloride danger
11:26 BELGRADE, Aug 11 (Beta) - Traffic over the central Belgrade tramway bridge has been halted as railway staff work to secure four tankers carrying vinyl chloride which overturned outside the central railway station yesterday. The prime minister’s ecology advisor, Srdja Popovic, told media this morning that the tankers were being secured before work began on decanting the toxic cargo.
“There is no need for haste, because everything is under control,” said Popovic, adding that their was no leakage and no danger either to the public or the environment. Transport authorities have advised that the derailment has not caused any alteration in train or bus schedules.
