Sweetener for sugar truckers ends roadblock
19:04 ECKA, Aug 4 (B92) - Protesting sugar beet truckers have withdrawn their vehicles from the Zrenjanin Belgrade road near Ecka after blocking the road for four days.
The drivers ended their protest after the Serbian Government agreed to release 404 tonnes of sugar from its reserves to allow arrears to producers and truckers for last year’s harvest to be paid. The government offer came after Trade Minister Slobodan Milosavljevic met Ziva Vita, the acting director of the Zrenjanin sugar refinery, which owes the truckers a total of eleven million dinars (about 170,000 euros).
