EU extends suspension on sugar imports from Serbia by six more months
15:29 BELGRADE, July 24 (Tanjug) - The European Commission has extended by another six months as of August 5 the suspension of preferential treatment for sugar imports from Serbia-Montenegro (SCG) into the European Union, which was an unpleasant surprise for the Serbian government which expected a shorter period, Serbian Minister of International Economic Relations Goran Pitic said Thursday.
A letter received Wednesday from EC Foreign Affairs Commissioner Chris Patten says that the suspension was extended due to structural problems in the control of trade and the functioning of the single SCG market, and notes that the EU office which should secure this has not been established yet, Pitic told a press conference.
