Djelic says VAT to be introduced as of January 1
19:05 BELGRADE , July 24 (Tanjug) - The value added tax (VAT), which should be introduced in Serbia as of January 1, 2004, is a much more efficient and just way of tax collection than the present one, Serbian Finance Minister Bozidar Djelic has said.
Speaking at a news conference, Djelic said that the Serbian government had on Thursday adopted a bill on the VAT and referred it to a public debate, which would last by the end of September. The introduction of the VAT represents the third and the last segment of the public finance reform, which began in April 2001 and continued in November 2002, he added.
