Djelic says stability the watchword
11:23 BELGRADE, July 17, 2003 (RTS) – In a two-hour TV duel with Serbia’s national bank governor, the country’s finance minister last night dismissed claims that the government’s proposed bank bill will imperil monetary stability.
Bozidar Djelic said the government had consulted commercial banks, which had insisted that “everything is going on as usual” and that savings deposits and foreign currency reserves were stable. Djelic told his opponent, Mladjan Dinkic, that the government would not be printing money in the months to come since inflation is the “feared most by the people, after disease.”
