Parliament to discuss bank bill on Tuesday
BELGRADE, July 12, 2003 (IIS, Beta) - Parliament in Serbia will convene on Tuesday to discuss the government’s proposed legislation on the National Bank and the financing of political parties. Parliament Speaker Natasa Micic scheduled the extraordinary session for 10am.
The governor of the National Bank has criticized the bank legislation as irresponsible, and accused the government of trying to oust him. Serbia’s Prime Minister, Zoran Zivkovic, said the government had, for political reasons, dropped a clause that would have made Governor Mladjan Dinkic’s position untenable, but urged MPs to offer an amendment to that effect.
