NBS remains independent, says Serbian premier
20:43 BELGRADE, July 11, 2003 (Tanjug) - The Serbian government on Friday adopted a draft law on the National Bank of Serbia (NBS), under which the NBS will remain independent and the governor will be nominated by the Serbian parliament's finance committee and elected by parliament, Serbian Premier Zoran Zivkovic said on Friday.
Speaking at a news conference, he said that this and other bills adopted on Friday would be reviewed by parliament next week and that the NBS governor would be nominated by the parliament's finance committee until the adoption of a new Serbian Constitution (on February 15), when this duty would be taken over by the Serbian president.
