Serbian government wants to deprive NBS of independence - governor
19:49 BELGRADE , July 10 (Tanjug) - National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Governor Mladjan Dinkic on Thursday said that the Serbian government had recently secretly prepared a draft law on the NBS, envisaging a complete loss of independence of the central bank and the governor in pursuing the country's monetary policy, which would lead to the "collapse of the country's financial system."
Speaking at a special news conference, called "because of political pressure aimed at depriving the NBS of independence," Dinkic said that the draft law should be adopted by the Serbian government "today or tomorrow" and sent to the Serbian parliament for reviewal and urgent adoption in the next few days, in order to avoid any postponement due to summer holidays.
