Croatia suspends visa requirements for state union citizens
15:12 ZAGREB, June 4 (Beta) - The Croatian Government has today decided to suspend visa restrictions for citizens of Serbia-Montenegro for a six month period.
The Zagreb authorities explained that the temporary lifting of visa requirements would run from 10 June to 31 December this year and will be "a true trial period".
Those opposing the decision pointed to the Croatian Interior Ministry's marked success in reducing the numbers of illegal immigrants
traveling to western Europe via Croatia over the past few years, arguing that this decision could lead to an increase in human trafficking.
The move was supported by pro-European Croats, who pointed out that regional cooperation is one of the key conditions for Croatia's accession to the European Union.
