Sugar police set up shop
19:02 BELGRADE, May 12 (Beta) – Customs officers took up posts today in sugar plants throughout Serbia.
Their initial task is to catalogue sugar reserves and check documentation on foreign trading since September last year.
Work will begin in earnest for the sugar police once the new season’s beet harvest begins.
Under an agreement between the Customs Bureau and sugar manufacturers, the customs officers will keep a register of sugar produced in Serbia in order to be able to guarantee the origin of sugar exported to the European Union.
