Montenegro Electoral Campaign Ends Friday
17:34 (VOA News) - Campaigning for Sunday's presidential elections in Montenegro officially ends at midnight, local time.
It will be the former Yugoslav republic's third attempt to elect a president in five months.
Elections in December and February were declared void because voter turnout was less than 50 percent. Parliament has since dropped that rule, and whoever gets the most votes Sunday will win the election.
The clear favorite again is Filip Vujanovic of the ruling Democratic Party of Socialists, a key ally of Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic. The other candidates are Miodrag Zivkovic of the Liberal Alliance and independent Dragan Hajdukovic.
Mr. Vujanovic favors Montenegro breaking away from its current federation with Serbia, but says he would give the three-month-old federation a chance. Either state has the right to choose independence after three years.
