Sugar plants and customs administration to define sugar export-import control
Belgrade - The Serbian government representatives met today with representatives of the Italian, Greek and Serbian sugar plants in the country. They agreed that the procedure of defining the export-import control of sugar be defined within the next seven days with the Customs administration.
The government will protect the domestic sugar market and thus create conditions for placing exclusively the surplus of the domestic sugar production on the EU market.
The meeting was organised after the EU introduced measures to suspend preferential rates on sugar imports to EU countries. The Serbian government will seek to protect the domestic sugar market and create conditions that only surplus output be shipped from Serbia to the EU market.
