Wheat crops will be considerably lower than last year, Malesevic
NOVI SAD - Director of the Novi Sad based Scientific Institute for agriculture and vegetable growing Miroslav Malesevic told Tanjug on Thursday that, due to the drought and frost, this year's wheat crops will be considerably lower than the last year's average of 3.5 tonnes per hectare.
"The wheat situation is rather alarming. Out of the 600,000 hectares under wheat in Serbia, only one third of this area will give good crops. It is far from being enough. The annual needs of our country are about 1.8 million tonnes, of which 200,000 tonnes need to be used for the next sowing," said Malesevic.
