US unfreezes foreign currency of the former SFRY
BELGRADE - Serbian National Bank Governor Mladjan Dinkic said on Tuesday that the US administration had unfrozen 90.3 million dollars of the foreign currency reserves belonging to the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY), which had been agreed upon by the Vienna Agreement in the succession process in 2000.
"We are entitled to 38 percent of the amount, and Croatia was going to block it. However, thanks to the US administration, and good preparations of our government, today, the money is on the accounts of the Serbian National Bank, so that this amount has made our foreign currency reserves amount to 2.4 billion dollars," the governor told the press during the ceremony of putting the first electronic exchange office in Serbia into operation.
