In Serbian textile industry works 1,000 companies with 100,000 employees.
Approved this year quotas for textile exports to EU Serbian textile companies have already used, explains Dejan Gajic from G17 Institute.
Domestic textile industry has required quotas increasing by 25% but EU puts 4 conditions:
- According of custom charges on textile products between Serbia and Montenegro (only condition which is accomplished);
- One negotiator for Serbia & Montenegro;
- Establishing of the body for export licenses approving (a means to prevent re-export of textile products from Chine or similar countries);
- Uniform function of custom administration in Serbia and Montenegro.
Foreign partners are mostly interested in cheap labor force. Germany, for example, is ready to offer €1 for skirts, €1.8 for trousers, €5.5 for coats.
