BASF to set up regional IT centre in Budapest
Budapest - The German chemicals company BASF will set up its regional IT centre for Eastern Europe in Budapest.
The centre will focus on strengthening the firm's positions on the Southeast European markets (Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia and Serbia), senior executive Egon Weinmuller told national daily Nepszabadsag on Wednesday.
BASF increased its pesticides sales in the region by 18pc to EUR 840m in 2002.
EU enlargement will give the firm room to grow on the pesticides market, with arable land in the union expected to increase by 22pc (or a total of 40m hectares) after the ten new member states join in May 2004, Nepszabadsag reported.
