Veselinov expects that preferential EU imports of Serbian sugar won’t be jeopardized
Serbian Agriculture Minister Dragan Veselinov pointed out that our country has been very grateful to the European Union for preferential trading concerning Serbian sugar. Serbia, as other West Balkans countries, can export sugar to the EU without quotas and customs charges.
During the first quarter of this year Serbia sugar exports were worth $38 million. Thanks to these exports, this year 80% more sugar beets have been sown in Serbia than last year.
The EU didn’t warn Serbia that some Serbian sugar producers or traders had exported to the EU sugar of foreign origin with false documentation. The EU only required a rigorous customs check of Serbian sugar deliveries. So Minister Veselinov expects that preferential EU imports of Serbian sugar won’t be jeopardized.
