Sugar beet, sunflower and soy sowing
Sugar factories have contracted sowing 100,000 ha with sugar beet producers. This is 30,000 ha more than the government is ready to subsidize at the rate of 12,300 din per ha. It is not yet quite clear how this surplus will be subsidized, or if it will be. There is increasing interest in the sowing of sugar beets amongst farmers because the
government has ensured subsidies, allowing sugar factories to provide seeds, fertilizers and plant protection products gratis.
There will be 185,000 ha of sunflowers sown, which also is more than the government is ready to subsidize. However, sunflower subsidies won’t be a problem because cooking oil refineries will pay the difference. Soybeans will be sown on a total of 120,000 ha.
