Foundry troubles
Serbian foundries are suffering problems due to uncontrolled exports of salvage iron and steel. At the same time, the foundries must import very expensive salvage iron and steel. In 2002 Serbia imported 90,000 tons salvage steel worth $10 millions and exported 52,000 tons for $4 millions.
The foundries are also in a difficult situation because they don’t get export subsidies for final products as do producers from other neighboring countries.
