Djelic: dirty money was used to buy bonds
BELGRADE – Serbian Finance Minister Bozidar Djelic today said that “there are some indications that state bonds were purchased by members of criminal groups”.
Speaking at a roundtable organized by the Belgrade stock exchange and the Economist magazine, Djelic said: "All transactions are currently being examined in order to prevent the operations in which laundered money would be made legitimate by buying securities issued by the state".
Explaining that there is disorder in market insurance due to a lack of competition regulation, the minister also said that a probe would be launched into the work of all commercial courts, and insurance companies would be investigated.
Djelic also said that the war in Iraq would effect Serbia’s economy directly, if crude oil prices were to rise, and indirectly, as the country will be unable to export goods to markets in the vicinity of Iraq.
