International standard DNA forensic lab completed
NOVI SAD – The first fully functional DNA laboratory in Serbia was unveiled today at the Novi Sad Institute for Forensic Medicine.
According to Institute Director Milos Tasic, the lab will supersede Belgrade’s existing “incomplete” lab by providing much higher levels of identification.
Speaking at a press conference, Tasic said: "The lab makes possible a one hundred per cent certain identification of persons or their traces with a tissue sample of just eight cells. If you hold the door handle for just 15 seconds you leave almost 300 cells on it".
The lab, which incorporates the latest technology, will be used for processing criminal data that will enable the “direct exchange of data at the international level”.
