New banknotes introduced to foil counterfeiters
BELGRADE - The National Bank of Serbia today introduced new 1000-dinar banknotes in an effort to combat counterfeiters and to celebrate the 119th anniversary of the National Bank of Serbia.
Governor of the National Bank Mladjan Dinkic announced the introduction of this new note in response to the discovery of 3777 forged 1000-dinar notes in the previous year, equivalent to 60 thousand euros.
The new note displays a portrait of former governor of the National Bank of the Kingdom of Serbia, Djordje Vaifert, as well as containing the kinegram security feature, which is a silver-lustrous metallic foil image that is much more difficult to forge than the previous note.
Speaking to media, Dinkic said: "Both existing 1000 dinar banknotes will be used for the time being, while the old banknotes will be withdrawn by the end of the year at the latest, but we will release the exact date later on".
