Poverty rate in Serbia 10.6 pct
BELGRADE - Below the lower poverty threshold, with average incomes of about 4.500 dinars, in Serbia is living 10.6 pct of the population, which means that in Serbia 800,000 people are
barely making ends meet at the expense of their own diet, Minister for Social Issues Gordana Matkovic cautioned on Saturday.
Commenting on the results of a survey about the standard of living of the inhabitants of Serbia, she cautioned at the meeting "Policy of reducing poverty" held at the Sava Center conference hall that just above the
poverty line was a large number of people, and if the threshold were to by raised by only 10 pct, the number of poor would double, to 1,600,000 inhabitants.
