Corruption councilor resigns in protest over inaction
BELGRADE – A member of Serbia’s Anti-Corruption Council has resigned, saying that not a single anti-corruption law had been passed last year, despite the Serbian Government having designated 2002 the year of fighting corruption.
In his written resignation to the government, Cedomir Cupic said that this was sufficient reason to ask if there was any point in being part of a body whose work is not recognized and brings no results.
“Police and politicians are evaluated on the basis of their promises and the way the fulfill those promises,” he said, adding that nothing which had been promised had been achieved.
Even the final deadline of December last year for the Serbian Government to table its anti-corruption bill in the parliament had not been met.
The council was established in 2001.
