Vojvodina Assembly introduces lustration procedure
NOVI SAD – The Assembly of Serbia’s northern province of Vojvodina is to introduce legislation on lustration.
“The aim of the bill on responsibility for violation of human rights is to ensure that public officials who have violated human rights or abused their authority are held legally responsible,” Vojvodina representative Gordana Comic told media today.
The legislation is expected to apply to all violations of human rights committed after March 23, 1976, when the international covenant on civil and political rights came into force.
The bill stipulates that the lustration process would apply to all candidates for seats in the parliament or provincial assembly and government officials, both elected and appointed.
The law will also apply to senior officials in public companies.
Comic told media that the legislation was drafted by the Belgrade Centre for the Advancement of Legal Studies.
