UN accepts Serbia and Montenegro
BELGRADE – The name “Serbia and Montenegro” has been in use in the UN since yesterday night.
The Federal Foreign Ministry confirmed to B92 last night that immediately after the new state was announced in the Federal Parliament, the Yugoslav mission to the UN sent official word to the UN Secretary General of the name change.
“The only change in the new state’s status lies in the order of seats in international conferences and the placing of delegates in alphabetical order”, B92 was told.
Constitutional Commissioner Bosko Ristic commented that the introduction of a new flag, anthem, and coat of arms is still far off since the joint coat of arms must represent both republics.
Serbia’s coat of arms still features five-pointed stars.
When it comes to personal documents, stamps, and memorandums bearing the Yugoslav name, Ristic said that the status quo will remain for now.
