'Out of the mattress and into the banks'
SERBIA – Foreign currency savings are steadily growing, Serbia’s finance minister said today, attributing the increase to citizens moving their savings “out of their mattresses” into banks.
Bozidar Djelic told Novo Sad daily 'Dnevnik' that when Deutschmarks were changed for euros last year, 28 per cent of the converted currency remained in banks, which he described as encouraging.
The finance minister added that it was very important that the public regained their trust in banks.
