Federal Parliament passes dual citizenship law
BELGRADE – The Federal Parliament Chamber of Republics has adopted a law on dual citizenship between Yugoslavia and Bosnia-Hercegovina.
The chamber closed its extraordinary session today during which over 20 bills were passed.
According to the law, a citizen of one country can acquire the citizenship of the other when he comes of age, if he has registered residency of at least 3 years in the territory of that country, or if he has been married to a citizen of that country for more than a year.
When on Yugoslav territory a person of dual citizenship will be classed as a Yugoslav citizen, and when on Bosnian territory he will be classed as Bosnian.
Citizens are only obliged to complete national service in one country.
Children may acquire dual citizenship with the consent of their parents.
