New wave of phenol arriving from Kosovo
Kraljevo - Serbian inspectors for protection of human environment left for Kosovo after several-day waiting for UNMIK's permission to enter the southern Serbian province. They are to investigate the appearance of phenol in the Ibar River. Inspectors have information about new wave of phenol in the Ibar at the town of Kosovska Mitrovica. As UNMIK reported the concentration of phenol in this river is from 130-160 mg per liter of water.
According to Serbian Minister for environment Andjelka Mihajlov, the team of Serbian Government should travel to Kosovo today after UNMIK has arranged necessary security measures.
'This team should precisely locate the source of pollution and make together with UNMIK the plan of measures for elimination of further pollution and consequences that it has caused so far', Minister Mihajlov said for 'Blic' daily.
'Establishment of cooperation with UNMIK regarding human environment is going on very difficult. Political connotation has been given to this purely human problem. UNMIK seems to be surprised because it is expected to cooperate with us. I strongly believe this will change', Minister Andjelka Mihajlov said.
