Serbian experts to go in Kosovo and determine the sources of pollution with phenol
Belgrade, Kraljevo - 'According to the latest results of analyses of water being made by UNMIK in Kosovo and Metohija, the presence of phenol has been found in some other source of drinking water supply in Kosovo. The conclusion is that its flow into the rivers of Ibar and Sitnica is not an accident but permanent pollution', Andjelka Mihajlov, Serbian Minister for environment said for 'Blic' daily.
According to her words the Ministry is expecting to get 'any minute fax from UNMIK's Chief Michael Steiner by which experts of Serbian Government will be allowed to enter Kosovo and Metohija and 'Obilic'
thermo-electric plant there.
'We yesterday reported the case to the Program of UN for extraordinary situation in Geneva and got reply from them, that they, too will most likely join in settlement of the problem', Minister Mihajlov said.
Serbian Government sent request to Steiner to immediately determine how pollution had occurred and stop further polluting of the rivers of Sitnica and Ibar because water supply to over 100000 people of Kraljevo and of some other towns too is at risk.
