Washington sets Hague arrests as condition for aid
WASHINGTON – US assistance to Yugoslavia could be threatened if there is no progress in cooperation between Belgrade and the Hague Tribunal, Washington said today.
According to today’s statement, US officials will attempt to persuade Yugoslavia and Bosnia to arrest and extradite the principal suspects for war crimes in the former Yugoslavia.
First among those are former Bosnian Serb leaders Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic.
The Bush Administration also announced that State Department envoy Pierre Richard Prosper would this week warn Yugoslavia and Bosnia that they would not be accepted on the international level until Karadzic and Mladic were found.
