Mining community lifts blockade
BELGRADE – Road and rail links into the town of Vreoci were cleared this afternoon after being blockaded by local residents for the past three days.
The locals decided to open the roads after Mining and Energy Minister Kori Udovicki agreed to come to the town to discuss the problem of encroaching mining.
The town is under threat from the extension of open cuts in the nearby Kolubara coal mine.
Local leader Malisa Markovic told media that workers and miners will again block the roads if Udovicki fails to appear.
