Blockade threatens Serbia's power supply
BELGRADE – The railway track used for transporting coal to the Nikola Tesla electrical plant in Veliki Crljeni is blocked for the second day in a row at a village in central Serbia.
The village of Vreoci near Lazarevac is threatened by the spread of open cut coalmines of the Kolubara mine, a problem for which locals have long been demanded a solution.
Those in charge warned that the blockade could affect the distribution of power in Serbia.
Local mayor Malisa Markovic told B92 that the village is constantly lacking drinking water because the increase in shafts destroys supply wells.
Additional problems include noise pollution, the large concentration of dust, and the ruined road network.
The Serbian Minister for Mining and Energy Kori Udovicki invited local representatives to join the negotiations in Belgrade, but they refused insisting that those in charge should come to them.
