US congressman 'impressed' by Yugoslav weapons
KRAGUJEVAC - US Congressman Curt Weldon said yesterday that he wanted to "help lift restrictions as soon as possible, so that weapons produced by the Zastava factory could again find their way onto the US market".
He also said, during his visit to the Zastava munitions factory in Kragujevac, that this factory produced "weapons of very high quality, which, due to certain customs restrictions, are still unavailable to buyers in the USA".
"I am impressed with the quality of production at this factory. Unfortunately, there are certain restrictions in the spheres of trade and customs, which practically make it impossible for Americans to find weapons produced in Kragujevac on their market," Weldon said.
The congressman could not specify when trade relations between the USA and Yugoslavia would be completely
normalized, but he said that the improvement of political relations would have a positive influence on trade exchange between the two countries.
"I will inform the Congress about what I have seen here and my report will be positive. I will put my efforts into encouraging the government to lift all restrictions and sanctions as soon as possible, and to thereby make selling your products in the USA possible," Weldon concluded.
