Attempt to destroy National Bank of Yugoslavia, Dinkic
BELGRADE - National Bank of Yugoslavia governor Mladjan Dinkic cautioned on Wednesday that cochairman of the constitutional commission Bosko Ristic and Serbian Premier Zoran Djindjic are trying to put political pressure on the independence of the National Bank of Yugoslavia by announcing a new law on the National Bank of Serbia, which is designed to replace him as governor and to place the National Bank of Serbia under the control of the Serbian government.
"All the disputes in relation to the Constitutional Law are not really about whether Mladjan Dinkic will remain and become the governor of the National Bank of Serbia, but whether one of the most stable institutions in the country will be preserved or destroyed and whether it will be allowed that the hard-gained independent position of the central bank will remain or whether we will get a central bank that will be managed by the government, which is contrary to all international standards in developed countries," Dinkic said.
