Djindjic: No Critical Mass to Bring Down the Government
Belgrade - Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic stated in his interview to Belgrade ‘Economist’ that some extraordinary elections will only be held in case the government and DOS want it, ’for there is no critical mass on the other side of joint interest of the opposition’.
According to him, the most parties of the opposition ‘make statements that they could hardly wait for the elections; but I know what they tell me when we speak about the subject’. He estimated that there was no chance that 126 MP’s could gather against the government by the time of the regular elections at the end of 2004. ‘Only DSS and SRS have interest for the elections. Their priority is elections every three months, because those are the parties that deal exclusively with politics. They do not have the sense for real social problems, nor do they see the consequences of political tremors on the society. They see politics as a stage for weekly shows. From their point of view, they are completely right. But, their MP’s make less than a hundred in Serbian assembly, and that is too few to bring down the government’, concluded Djindjic.
