State, Karic in dispute over Mobtel ownership
BELGRADE – Serbia’s privatization minister Aleksandar Vlahovic said
today that he expected the ownership structure of Mobtel, Serbia’s
largest cellular telephone operator, to be settled by the end of
January.
Business magnate Bogoljub Karic, who established Mobtel under the
patronage of the Milosevic regime, disagreed today with Vlahovic’s
assessment that the state would have a considerable majority of
ownership in the company.
He told Belgrade media that the state owns only 49 per cent of
Mobtel while his BK Group owns 51 per cent.
Unofficial sources close to the Serbian Government say that Karic
will be left with no more than thirty per cent ownership in the
company.
Minister Vlahovic told media that he expected the company to be
privatized by tender, in a procedure which could begin as early as
next month.
