Media licking the new boss’s boots, says 'Republika' editor
BELGRADE – Media in today’s Serbia are under pressure to align themselves with the new government as part of an ideological-propaganda apparatus, the editor-in-chief of Republic weekly said today.
Speaking at a celebration of the news magazine’s three hundredth issue, Nebojsa Popov said that this was bringing the basic role of the media into question.
Rather than providing propaganda services for the government, that role should be to stimulate and imitate the space which exists between a normal state and a normal society, he said.
